Inspired by a fascination with local history and folklore, "Within the Crystal Hills" reimagines the legendary Old Man of the Mountain in New Hampshire. Our talented team of artists has woven influences from Nathaniel Hawthorne, the Hudson River School, German expressionism, Abenaki mythology, and shadow puppetry while drawing from New Hampshire's rich cultural heritage to craft a truly unique narrative. Although it is a work of fiction, writers Christina K. Caralis and Griffin “The” Hansen dedicated numerous hours to researching New Hampshire’s myths and colonial history at various historical societies and sites throughout the state, aiming to infuse the story with a genuine sense of authenticity. Created by a team of artists from New England and beyond, our team brought a diverse and vast array of influences and perspectives to this retelling that show not only an extreme reverence for the stories told before, but a passion to carve our own unique place in the pantheon of New Hampshire folklore.
